Men suspected to be thieves invaded the High Court of Bayelsa State last night, TNL had learnt.

According to the information gathered by TNL, the thieves scaled through the fence without the knowledge of the security operatives and made away with some valuables.

Three court were said to have been invaded. A source who spoke with TNL confirmed that Court one, presided by the Chief Justice of Bayelsa State, Honourable Justice Kate Abiri, Court four presided over by Justice Aganaba and Court six presided over by Justice E. Adokeme were the courts invaded by the hoodlums.

The source also informed TNL that items such as Plasma T.V., and Air Conditioner were stolen, and that some files were also believed to have been taken away.

Some lawyers who spoke to TNL registered their disappointment with the security officers, wondering how the thieves could successfully break into the Court premises and effect their criminal intention.

”This is bad. It doesn’t speak well of the security system of the High Court premises. It took the criminals enough time to effect their plan. For them to be able to successfully move items like those show that the security agencies were either sleeping or not at their security post. The government should look into this,” a lawyer said.

Others who spoke also criticized the security structure in the complex as no security officer was placed at the back gate to secure the court.

As at the time of filing this report, TNL is yet to confirm the extent of damage caused in the various courts involved.
