A Lagos High Court Sitting in Badagry, Lagos has given judgement against the police and the Lagos State government over wrongful demolition of houses in the Atinporomeh Community.Casefile reports.
According to the judgement handed down by Justice Serifat Sonaike in the matter, the judge said that the demolition of properties in Araromi Ale and Atinporomeh communities in Badagry was unlawful.
The case came to its end after 10 years and 6months of challenge in court.
The claimants have alleged officers from the Lagos State Task Force and the police for putting the community under siege and eventually pulling down their houses with bulldozers.
The applicants got justice after seeking declaration that the forceful demolition of their premises by the defendants was unconstitutional.
Giving judgement in the case, Justice Serifat Sonaike noted that the evidence before the court showed that the Lagos State Government sold the land to the Nigerian Police which to all intent and purposes amounts to robbing Peter to pay Paul.
She finds the demolition carried out as illegal and not in compliance with the existing laws of the country.
