In the suit with Suit No: W/44/FHR/2018, filed by the Applicant against the said Sergeant before His Lordship, Hon. Justice Roli Daibo Harriman, the Applicant, Mr. Anthony, has sued for the enforcement of his right to personal liberty and dignity of human person. TheNigerialawyer (TNL) recalls that Mr. Anthony had sought before the court among others, that the slapping by the said Sergeant on him and the torture, inhuman and degrading treatment meted against him by the same Sergeant and other men of the Nigerian Police force, Quick response Squad, State Headquarters, (Annex) Oguni Road, Warri Delta State, on the 16th day of January, 2018 at the instigation of the respondent is a violation of his right, and that the molestation, maltreatment, inhuman and degrading treatment, assault, intimidation, torturing, arrest, detention and public embarrassment of his person by the said sergeant is also a violation of his right as well. Citing plethora of cases and other extant laws, the Court held that the Applicant has disclosed a reasonable cause of action, and ordered among others, that the said Sergeant Blessing Adene apologize to the Applicant in writing through the Applicant Counsel within 7 (seven) days of the judgement. The court also ordered that the sum of N100,000 be paid as compensation, while N20,000 be paid for cost incurred. ]]>
