Dr. Gawuna was sworn-in as the new Deputy Ggovernor before a mammoth crowd at Coronation Hall, Government House by Kano state Chief Judge, Justice Nura Umar. He succeeded Prof, Hafiz Abubakar who resigned his position over a month ago. According to Ganduje, “indeed, today is a very important day to us. It is a historic moment and I welcome you all to witness this very important occasion. You can recall that when my former Deputy Governor voluntarily retired and resigned as the Deputy Governor of Kano state, a vacuum was created. “In order to fill this vacuum, it took us a long time. This is because in order to choose the best, in order to choose the most appropriate, in order to choose the most convincing, certainly there is need for time. “So, it took us a long time to examine the circumstances, to examine the situation, to examine the personality, to examine his potentials, to examine his capabilities, and to examine his sense of responsibility. “Finally, we decided to choose this very important personality, our brand new Deputy Governor. His credentials are similar to my own credentials. He holds a Masters Degree in Science, he was an elected chairman of a Local Government twice. He was a Commissioner and member of Kano state Executive Council, also twice. “We followed the same route. I was secretary of a Local Government Council, I was chairman of a Local Government Council, I was Commissioner for six years, Deputy Governor for eight years. So, you can see that our credentials are similar. “We want to thank you very much also for being consistent in the execution of his responsibilities. Your duties as Deputy Governor is very challenging. The work requires loyalty, sincerity of purpose. Loyalty and sincerity of purpose are very important in the execution of the responsibilities of a Deputy Governor. “A Deputy Governor must be capable and must execute his responsibilities in a very diligent manner. A Deputy Governor must be a bridge builder. He must be a man of the people. He must be conversant with the dynamics of the politics of Kano state. He must be very conversant with dynamics in the running of government, particularly, the most populated state like Kano state. “I am convinced that Dr. Gawuna has all these qualities that we have mentioned. Therefore, I do congratulate him. Dr. Gawuna is now the Deputy Governor of Kano state. And also, he will continue to be the honourable Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources. “I do sincerely thank the Right Honourable Speaker, Kano state House of Assembly, I thank the Chief Judge of Kano state and I thank the Honourable Commissioner of Justice and the Attorney-General for this wonderful occasion.”]]>
