The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA), has announced the disqualification of three candidates from contesting in the forthcoming NBA national election. The candidates are Mr. Umukoro E. Moses Derick for the position of Assistant Financial Secretary, Anne Agi, for the position of 1st Assistant Secretary; Onyeka ‘Minista” Obiajulu, for the position of Assistant Publicity Secretary. The candidates are the members of NBA Abuja branch. The notice of disqualification was contained in a letter addressed to Mr. Derick under the designation of the committee’s chairman, Prof. Auwalu Yadudu and the Secretary, Mr. Bolaji A. Agoro Esq. The wordings of the letter reveal that Mr. Derick had been disqualified for failing to satisfactorily meet the electoral requirement stated in S. 8 (3) (a) of the 2015 NBA Constitution. TheNigerialawyer (TNL) recalls that there had been complaints against the Unity Bar contestant, bothering on payment of his 2017 and 2018 Annual branch dues, which led the committee through a letter dated the 29th June 2018 to demand evidence of payment. However, based on the findings from the committee, Mr. Derick was not able to prove his payment, hence, the disqualification. Based on this, Mr. Derick, Anni, and Onyeka may not be contesting in the forthcoming NBA national election. However, the decision can still be appealed.]]>
