It is only in a failed Association that you can see these kind of actions where lawyers would have to call in the police to settle employment/contract dispute between a vulnerable young lawyer and the employer. And the police intervention is even by armed police. Then did anything we learned about the arrest (even with all the force required) include the indignity of slapping the person to be arrested? I am almost certain that like thousands of other cases this young lawyer was not given a written contract of employment or even a mere letter of engagement that states the conditions of the employment. The indignity of young lawyers have been passed from generations to generations but we must break this vicious circle now! Every employer of a lawyer must be held accountable on how they treat our lawyers. The burden is higher for any lawyer or law firm that employs our young lawyers. I have said this many times that it is a high professional indiscipline for lawyers in our law firms to continue to be treated with indignity. This diminishes us all as professionals and even human beings. It diminishes our some-bodiness. It diminishes the profession, its independence and as an institution that should be protecting the rest of the society. It tells so much about our character and how the society may continue to distrust us. A profession that shows no respect for itself and its young has no need to continue to exist. We must stop now!]]>
