A source close to the Office of the President of the Senate, reliably told our correspondent that the DSS directed 11 of its operatives attached to Saraki to leave the office of the number three citizen and report back to the DSS headquarters with effect from 10a.m. today. The source further said that there was no reason given whatsoever for the withdrawal, but there were speculations that the directive might have been at the instance of the Presidency. The source also hinted that the action might be part of the strategy by the All Progressives Congress (APC), to intimidate and cow members of the New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) bloc in the ruling party. Members of nPDP are likely to defect either to the opposition PDP or other parties and present a candidate to challenge President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 elections. The withdrawal was, however, coming ahead of today’s meeting between the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo and the nPDP team, which will be led by Dogara. Saraki is also a member of nPDP, the faction that broke away from the PDP in 2013 and supported the APC to win elections in the 2015 general polls. The nPDP had recently issued an ultimatum to APC for a meeting, complaining that it had been marginalised by the ruling party after helping them to dethrone the PDP from power in 2015.]]>
