The presiding magistrate, Mr. Moses Akpona, found Brakeme John guilty on a three court charge of having unlawful carnal knowledge, assault and battery. He sentenced the convict to five years for first count and two years in the third count without an option of fine. Earlier, the persecutor, Mr. Sunday Akemu had told the court that the convict committed the offence on June 8th 2014 at Omokosi chive in Effurun. He said the convict, who was under the influence of alcohol, held the young girl and dragged her into an uncompleted building and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her. It was gathered that the girl’s cry for help later attracted rescue effort, after her attacker her forcefully had sex with her. Mr Akemu told the court that Brakeme’s act contravened section 218 and 222 of the criminal code. The convict pleaded guilty and prayed that mercy should be meted out with justice.]]>
