The 27th edition of Chief Justice of Nigeria Games will kick off today in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, with over 3,000 athletes featuring in 11 sporting events.

Already, Nigerian Judiciary staff are in Yenagoa to showcase their talent in table tennis, chess, ayo, volleyball, swimming, handball, athletics, badminton, scrabble, draughts and football.

Unveiling the trophy at a ceremony in Yenagoa yesterday, the Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Justice Kate Abiri described sports as a unifying factor especially with the security challenges confronting the nation.

Justice Abiri, who welcomed the participants ahead of today’s opening ceremony of the Games at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, implored them to enjoy the warmth and hospitality of the people of Bayelsa.

President of the National Sports Association for Judiciary, Mr. Emeka Ndili in a remark at the event said the games would enable Judiciary staff to be physically, mentally and psychologically fit for the administration of justice.

The National Sports Association for Judiciary came into existence in 1994 while the first edition of the Chief Justice of Nigeria Sports Competition took place in Lagos in 1995.

The highlight of yesterday’s event was the unveiling of the trophy for the competition and the presentation of Mr. Jemekori Dirikebamoh, the Sports Chairman of Bayelsa Judiciary as South-South Coordinator of NASAJ.
