*Releases 2027 SAN Application Guidelines

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has announced the commencement of applications for the 2027 award of the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), fixing a non-refundable processing fee of ₦5 million for legal practitioners in private practice and ₦2.5 million for lawyers employed in government service.

According to an official notice issued by the Committee, the application portal will open to prospective applicants at 12:00 a.m. on November 1, 2026, while the deadline for online submission of applications and supporting documents is midnight on January 31, 2027.

The LPPC also directed applicants to submit five flash drives containing their completed application forms and supporting documents to its Secretariat not later than 4:00 p.m. on February 1, 2027.

The notice, titled “2027 Award of the Rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria: Call for Applications,” was signed by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and Secretary of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee, Kabir Eniola Akanbi, Esq.

The Committee stated that the application process was being conducted pursuant to Section 5(2) of the Legal Practitioners Act, Cap L11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, and Paragraphs 10(1)–(4) of the 2022 Guidelines for the Conferment of the Rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

It explained that applications for the 2027 exercise would be accepted exclusively through its designated online portal, www.lppconline.com.

The LPPC stated that prospective applicants must comply strictly with the requirements and procedures outlined in the notice, warning that applications submitted contrary to its directives would be rejected.

Under the prescribed processing fees, legal practitioners in private practice are required to pay ₦5,000,000, while legal practitioners employed in government service are required to pay ₦2,500,000.

The Committee emphasised that the processing fees are non-refundable.

It directed applicants to make payments into either of two designated bank accounts maintained in favour of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (SAN).

The first account is domiciled with Zenith Bank Plc, account number 1014103141, while the second is with GTBank Plc, account number 0213662834.

Following payment, applicants are required to upload evidence of payment to the online application portal.

The Committee explained that applicants would subsequently receive a confirmatory email from the LPPC Secretariat, after which they could proceed with the online application process.

The notice further directed all applicants, whether applying under the Advocates’ or Academics’ category, to upload clear and legible copies of all mandatory and supporting documents specified in the applicable guidelines.

It stressed that, in accordance with Paragraph 9(2) of the 2022 Guidelines, only clear copies of documents would be accepted by the Secretariat.

For applicants under the academic category, the Committee introduced an additional documentary requirement.

It directed academic applicants to submit seven photocopies each of their curriculum vitae and impact statement, in addition to uploading scanned copies of their published works through the online application portal.

The seven copies of the curriculum vitae and impact statement must be submitted alongside the flash drives required under the application procedure.

The LPPC also directed all applicants to submit five flash drives containing copies of their completed application forms downloaded from the online portal, together with copies of all mandatory and supporting documents previously uploaded online.

These flash drives must be physically delivered to the LPPC Secretariat within the stipulated deadline.

The Committee warned that failure to comply with any of the prescribed submission requirements would result in the rejection of the application.

“Any application and supporting documents submitted in a manner contrary to the directives of the LPPC as enumerated above will be rejected by the Secretariat,” the notice stated.

On the application deadline, the LPPC directed that all online applications and their mandatory or supporting documents must be submitted through www.lppconline.com before midnight on January 31, 2027.

It further stipulated that the five flash drives containing the completed application forms and supporting documents must reach the Secretariat before 4:00 p.m. on February 1, 2027.

The Committee emphasised that submissions made after the prescribed deadlines would not be considered.

“Any submission made after the deadlines stipulated in clause 2.7 above shall be treated as a non-submission,” the notice warned.

The LPPC advised prospective applicants to complete their applications and submit the required documents within the prescribed period to avoid disqualification.

For enquiries concerning the 2027 SAN application exercise, applicants were directed to contact the Secretariat of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee through its official email address, lppcsecretariat@courts.gov.ng.

The Secretariat is located at the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Three Arms Zone, Supreme Court Complex, P.M.B. 308, Abuja, and can also be contacted by telephone on 09-2344762.

The 2027 application exercise will cover eligible legal practitioners seeking elevation to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria under the Advocates’ and Academics’ categories, subject to the requirements of the Legal Practitioners Act and the 2022 Guidelines for the Conferment of the Rank.

The Committee reiterated that compliance with the application procedures, documentary requirements, payment conditions and submission deadlines is mandatory for all prospective applicants.
