The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has intensified efforts to reshape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, openly courting former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, with an offer to contest the presidency on its platform.

In a post shared on its official X account on Sunday, the party signalled urgency in its appeal, indicating that both political heavyweights have a limited window to make a decision.

“All we need right now. Just all we need. 2 weeks to deadline,” the party wrote, suggesting that the offer is tied to its forthcoming primary process.

Although the NDC did not provide further details, the move is widely seen as part of broader opposition realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, as smaller parties and emerging platforms seek to consolidate influence by attracting high-profile figures.

Obi and Kwankwaso, both prominent opposition leaders, have remained central to discussions around coalition-building. Both politicians previously contested the presidency under different platforms and maintain significant grassroots support bases across the country.

Their association with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has also fuelled speculation about possible alliances or mergers among opposition parties seeking to mount a formidable challenge to the ruling party.

Nither Obi nor Kwankwaso has publicly responded to the NDC’s overture as of press time, leaving uncertainty over whether the invitation will translate into concrete political movement.

With party primaries expected to shape early alignments, the coming weeks are likely to be critical in determining whether key opposition figures will remain within their current platforms or explore new political pathways.
