The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final register of voters ahead of the November 8, 2025 Anambra State governorship election, putting the total number of registered voters in the state at 2,802,790.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday, September 4, 2025, by Sam Olumekun, mni, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee.
Olumekun explained that the figure followed the conclusion of the voter registration exercise conducted across the 326 wards in Anambra State from July 8 to 20, 2025, during which 168,187 citizens registered as new voters.
According to him, the list was subjected to public scrutiny and further cleaned using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS), which detected and removed 27,817 cases of double or multiple registrations.
“With this adjustment, the number of new registrants stands at 140,370, while valid applications for transfer into the state are 5,983, making a total of 146,353 new voters,” Olumekun stated.
Before the exercise, Anambra had 2,656,437 registered voters. With the addition of new registrants, the final voter roll now stands at 2,802,790.
A breakdown by local government area shows Idemili North with 246,318 (8.79%) voters leading the register, followed by Awka South with 216,611 (7.73%) and Ogbaru with 188,016 (6.71%). Dunukofia and Anambra West have the lowest figures, with 83,580 (2.98%) and 71,332 (2.55%) voters, respectively.
INEC assured new voters and those who applied for transfer or replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) that their cards would be ready for collection ahead of the election, which is now 63 days away.
On political party registration, Olumekun disclosed that the Commission had received 19 additional letters of intent from associations seeking registration, bringing the total to 171 as of September 3, 2025.
He noted that a shortlist of pre-qualified associations was being finalised for the next stage of registration, urging applicants to remain patient and avoid frequent changes to their logos, acronyms, addresses, and leadership, which, he said, often delay the process.
