Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has ordered the restriction of motorcycle operations across the state between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. as part of fresh measures to address growing security concerns.

Makinde announced the directive in an Executive Order issued on Friday, following the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

The governor said the restriction was part of ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities and support security operations aimed at securing the release of the abducted victims.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring their safe return, stressing that every day the victims remain in captivity brings pain and anxiety to their families and the people of Oyo State.

Makinde assured residents that security agencies and relevant authorities were working tirelessly to secure the victims’ freedom, describing their continued captivity as one of the most difficult challenges confronting his government.

According to him, the state has not forgotten or abandoned those who were kidnapped, adding that intensive efforts are being made behind the scenes to resolve the situation.

“We may not be able to disclose every step being taken because of the sensitive nature of the operations involved, but I ask our people not to mistake our silence for inaction. A great deal of work is being done behind the scenes,” Makinde said.

The governor appealed for the cooperation and understanding of residents, expressing confidence that ongoing security operations would yield positive results.

The restriction on motorcycle operations comes after coordinated attacks on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15.

The affected schools were Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and L.A. Primary School.

Reports indicated that no fewer than 45 pupils were abducted during the attacks, sparking widespread concern and anxiety among residents.

The incident has heightened tension across the state, with many residents calling for stronger security measures to prevent a recurrence.

Makinde said the government would continue to take necessary steps to protect lives and property, while urging residents to support security agencies with useful information.
