The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released the results of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted on April 17 and 18, with a total of 1,264,940 results now available for candidates to check.

JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday evening, confirming that candidates who sat for the examination on the two days can now access their results via SMS by sending “UTMERESULT” to 55019 or 66019 using the phone number used during registration.

According to him, the newly released results add to the 632,752 results earlier published from the April 16 examination, bringing the total number of results released so far to 1,897,692.

The development comes after concerns among candidates over delays in the release of the Friday results. JAMB had earlier assured that the results would be released before midnight on Saturday, but failed to meet the timeline.

Benjamin subsequently apologised for the delay, explaining that the board’s Chief Executive was unavailable due to an official engagement but had returned to Abuja to complete the process.

He described the release of results as a sensitive responsibility that cannot be delegated, noting that the Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, had been in Lagos before returning to oversee the exercise.

Despite the eventual release, some candidates complained of incurring multiple charges while attempting to check their results during the delay.

However, JAMB dismissed calls for refunds, maintaining that it did not officially announce the release of the results at the time candidates made those attempts.

“Why would you say they deduct money for something that has not been released? When we release results, we will tell Nigerians,” Benjamin said, insisting that the board bears no responsibility for charges incurred before the official release.

He reiterated that candidates should rely only on official communication from the board regarding result availability, assuring that the process remains transparent and in line with established procedures.

Meanwhile, JAMB reiterated that candidates who sat for the April 16 examination had earlier been granted access to their results, although printing of official result slips is yet to be enabled.

Amid confusion among candidates on how to check their scores, guidance has been provided to simplify the process. Candidates are advised to ensure they have sufficient airtime at least ₦50 on the phone number linked to their registration, as network providers may charge for the service.

To check results, candidates are required to send “UTMERESULT” in capital letters to 55019 or 66019. Once sent correctly, the result is delivered directly via SMS.

JAMB urged candidates to rely only on official communication channels for updates, assuring that the result-checking process remains transparent and consistent with established procedures.
