The Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, launched by the Obama administration in 2014, was the flagship programme of the Young African Leaders Initiative that empowers young people through academic coursework, leadership training and networking. In 2017, the fellowship provided the opportunity of mastering skills at the US College or University to 1,000 outstanding young leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa.
