The federal high court in Abuja has adjourned the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) till October 17. Kanu, who is due to appear in court on Tuesday, was last arraigned on April 25 during which he was granted bail on health grounds. Binta Nyako, justice of the court, had adjourned the sitting to Tuesday and Wednesday for indefinite commencement of the trial. But the court sitting did not hold as scheduled for undisclosed reasons. It was also learnt that Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Kanu’s lawyer, is seeking the variation of the bail conditions given to Kanu. Apart from barring Kanu from granting interviews while on bail, Nyako had also ordered him not to hold any rally, or be in a crowd of more than 10 people. He has, however, flouted most of his bail conditions. Kanu has granted press interviews on different occasions and has also been seen in a group of more than ten persons. Kanu was arrested in 2015 on an 11-count charge bordering on terrorism and treasonable felony. Six of the charges, including that of terrorism, were struck out early in 2017. He is being tried alongside three other defendants namely Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi.]]>
