The state’s Commissioner for Education, Gideon Obhakhan, disclosed this when he appeared before members of the Edo State House of Assembly. Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor of the University of Benin had earlier been appointed as pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the institution. The lawmakers had on April 20 summoned the Commissioners for Finance, Education, Environment, Public Utility, and Housing and Urban Development to appear before them to explain financial involvement of their ministries in the establishment of the university. Obhakhan told the lawmakers that structures were already on ground for smooth take off of the university. “My speaker, we are happy to inform you that the school has taken- off with all infrastructures in place. I cannot give the financial implication of the work done. “The Commissioner for Finance is in a better position to furnish the house with all the financial details. Three faculties, the faculty of Science, Arts and Pharmacy have been accredited,” Obakhan said. The state’s Commissioner for Finance, Mr. John Inegbedion said he could not give a breakdown of expenditures on the university because he is on vacation. He said, “I want to inform the house that I have been away on a 10-day vacation. I just resumed official duty on Monday, and do not have access to my office to get the information required.”]]>
