The International Women’s Day is a global day set aside by the United Nations to mark and celebrate the cultural, economic and political achievements of women and to discuss topical issues that border on gender parity, women empowerment, women’s rights and other issues that affect the lives of the average woman. The world over and Nigeria in particular have benefited immensely from the doggedness and wisdom of women. The Judiciary and the legal profession in recent times have witnessed a lot of activism by women which has helped shape and nurture our nascent democracy and other democracies of the world. As we commemorate this auspicious event, we celebrate every wife, mother and sister for their outstanding contributions to societal development and ability to maintain work-family balance in the most amazing way. We must endeavour to remember them in our prayers and to initiate policies and programmes that promote gender parity and encourage the active participation of women at all strata in societal development. On behalf of the Nigerian Bar Association, I wish every woman a rewarding and fruitful International Women’s Day celebrations. May you continue to inspire hope and a shared vision of a better society. Dated 8th March, 2016. Augustine Alegeh SAN, FCIArb.[UK] President, Nigerian Bar Association.]]>
