Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, on Monday dismissed the N100 million suit instituted against the EFCC by Ayoade Adeseun over alleged breach of his fundamental human rights.

Mr. Adeseun, a former senator who represented Oyo Central between 2011 and 2015, had through his counsel, Michael Lana, slammed a N100 million suit against the EFCC, saying it unlawfully detained him.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Mr. Adeseun was being investigated over the sources of his campaign fund during the 2015 senatorial election which he lost.

Mr. Lana told the court that his client was arrested on May 10 and was unlawfully detained for over 30 days.

Other reliefs sought bordered on the arrest of the applicant without knowing the reason for this and a declaration that the anti-graft body abused its power in a democratic setting.

But the EFCC stated that though Mr. Adeseun was granted bail, he was not released due to his inability to meet the bail conditions.

Justice Ayo-Emmanuel held that the EFCC did not breach the rights of Mr. Adeseun and consequently dismissed the seven reliefs sought by him.

“I have found that the rights of the applicant have not been breached in anyway.

“ I hereby dismiss the reliefs being sought by the applicant,” the judge said.
