In a historic moment for the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Sokoto Branch, Rashidat Mohammed has been elected as the first female Chairman of the branch.

The election, which took place on June 29, 2024, saw Mohammed emerge victorious by a margin of two votes ahead of her counterpart.

During her inaugural speech, Mohammed expressed her gratitude to the members of the Caliphate Bar for their overwhelming support and trust in her leadership. She acknowledged the mentorship and guidance of the branch’s elders and the unwavering support of the Young Lawyers’ Forum, particularly the ‘RASHIDIYYA MOVEMENT’ initiated by A. A. Sokoto Esq., Z. A. Dinyadi Esq., and Faruku Abdullahi Esq.

Mohammed outlined her vision and mission for the NBA Sokoto Branch, emphasizing her commitment to championing excellence, nurturing inclusivity, and upholding the rule of law. She aims to foster an all-inclusive Caliphate Bar dedicated to developing innovative initiatives, programs, and activities tailored to the diverse needs and aspirations of its members.

In a call to action, Mohammed urged her campaign team and all members of the branch to redirect their focus and energy towards shared goals, emphasizing that the strength of the association lies in each individual member. She extended a hand of fellowship to her contender, Y. Y. Gwazawa Esq., acknowledging that the NBA is bigger than any individual and requires the support of every member.

Mohammed also expressed her gratitude to the elders and legal luminaries of the branch, the Electoral Committee, and the erstwhile Chairman for their efforts in ensuring a free, fair, and credible election. She sought the continued support of all members in achieving their dreamed Caliphate Bar and working together as a family towards a brighter future.
