*Urges Stringent Action Against Non-Compliant Structures

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the arrest of the owner of the collapsed building in Abuja that claimed two lives on Wednesday night.

After inspecting the site and meeting with officials, the Minister directed law enforcement agencies to identify and apprehend the property owner responsible. 37 people were rescued from the rubble and hospitalized.

Condemning the unfortunate incident, Wike stated it exemplified the need for compliance with planning codes and standards. He reiterated that approvals ensure public safety, adding that the government will take over the site to prevent further construction.

The Minister urged stakeholders to collaborate with authorities, noting that decisions made are in the people’s best interests, even if uncomfortable. He applauded ongoing rescue efforts and directed that victims’ hospital bills be paid promptly.

Wike vowed to crack down on illegal buildings and substandard developments that violate regulations across the FCT. He emphasized that the move is not personal but aims to enforce safety for all.

The stern stance indicates the Minister’s commitment to tackle building code violations and avert future disasters through stringent enforcement. The FCT administration continues rescue and recovery at the collapse site.
