The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding his political allegiance during an exclusive interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today program on Wednesday.

He clarified that his focus lies with President Bola Tinubu and not the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike firmly stated, “I am not working for APC. I am working for Tinubu, who has placed trust in me to assist in delivering renewed hope.” He further emphasized his position by highlighting his involvement in supporting Tinubu during the February 25 presidential election.

The minister underlined that he does not owe anyone an apology for supporting Tinubu’s candidacy and mentioned his past affiliation with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He recounted, “I was in PDP and I worked for Ahmed Bola Tinubu to become the President of Nigeria.”

The controversy erupted after reports of Wike’s alleged APC membership surfaced, and his name appeared in the party’s campaign council for governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states. However, the APC later dismissed these lists as unofficial documents.

When questioned about potential disciplinary actions from his party, Wike expressed confidence, stating, “Who is the party? Who are they? With all due respect, I have not seen that person who will suspend me.” He asserted that he has yet to encounter a party leader with the authority to suspend or expel him from the PDP.

In summary, Nyesom Wike reiterated that his commitment is to President Tinubu’s vision and aspirations and not aligned with the APC. He underscored his belief in his actions and his history of supporting Tinubu’s political ambitions.
