Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN, FCIArb(UK), former Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Lagos Branch, has extended a goodwill message to the NBA Owerri Branch on the occasion of its 2025 Annual Law Week.
In his message, Akangbe congratulated the Chairman, Executive Committee, and entire members of the branch, applauding the chosen theme: “Reshaping Legal Practice and Justice Delivery: Charting the Future of the Profession.”
Describing the theme as “timely,” he highlighted the urgent need to address the systemic challenges plaguing the legal profession in Nigeria, including delays in justice delivery and poor remuneration of legal practitioners.
“These challenges have weakened the system and, sadly, affected the earnings and morale of many lawyers. When justice is delayed, the ripple effect touches everyone—especially those who have committed their lives to upholding it,” he stated.
Akangbe emphasized the importance of the newly introduced Remuneration Order under the Legal Practitioners Act, urging legal professionals across the country to unite in its implementation.
“Now more than ever, we must stand together to implement the new Remuneration Order under the Legal Practitioners Act. It’s a key step towards ensuring value for our work, improving our income, and securing the future of our noble profession,” he said.
He concluded by wishing the NBA Owerri Branch a successful and impactful Law Week celebration.
