*Lawyer Claims Invasion And Attempted Takeover Violates Subsisting Court Orders

Policemen from the Edo State Police Command on Friday evening reportedly attempted to takeover the premises of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) Plc in Benin City.

According to a report by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kunle Adegoke SAN, the policemen arrived the premises at about 6pm with vehicles bearing “Edo State Government” to takeover the office and forcefully install one Mr. Henry Ajagbawa as Managing Director.

According to Adegoke SAN, the unlawful invasion was notwithstanding the subsisting orders of the Federal High Court in Suit No FHC/ABJ/CS/1113/2022 in which Mr. Ajagbawa, K. C. Akuma, Adeola Ijose, Charles Onwera and Yomi Adeyemi were restrained from parading themselves as directors of BEDC Electricity Plc. The said orders of court also restrained Fidelity Bank PLC and Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission from taking over the business and premises of BEDC.

He further said, “The private security men guarding the premises were threatened with forced arrest if they did not allow the entry whilst the armed policemen positioned themselves in combat formation.”

In a video sighted by TheNigeriaLawyer, armed policemen were seen loitering around the building in the numbers as some officials of BEDC at the gate interrogated their mission and refused to grant them access insisting that it was not working hours and the office was shut for the day.

As at the time of filing this report, we were yet to get comments from the Edo State Government and the management of BEDC on the development.
