Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Tinubu at the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference in Lagos, expressed his surprise at being invited again after wearing sneakers to the previous event.

“Just before we won the elections and got sworn into office, no thanks to the NBA conference in this same Lagos, in this same venue, I pinned down and printed the internet for almost a month for wearing sneakers to [the conference],” Shettima said. “I thought that will be the last time I will be invited or I will speak at your conference.”

The Vice President’s choice of footwear at the previous conference had sparked widespread discussions and memes on social media. However, his presence at this year’s event suggests that attire is not a requisite for attending NBA events.

Shettima also shared an anecdote about his interaction with renowned Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie at the conference. “Actually, I was the hottest revelation I could remember. The famous Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, when we were holding the conversation up here, she was busy taking my pictures, and you know, I was wearing my mango park suit, you know? I had to retrieve my [picture],” he recounted.

The Vice President’s candid remarks about his experience at the previous NBA conference and his surprise at being invited again have garnered attention from attendees and the media alike.
