The arrest of controversial social media personality, VeryDarkMan (VDM), has continued to stir public debate, with human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju publicly questioning the silence of renowned activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana.

In a recent social media post, Adeyanju expressed disappointment over what he described as Falana’s failure to condemn the arrest or speak out in defense of the detained critic.

“Our revered leader and mentor, Femi Falana SAN, is yet to condemn the arrest of VDM. Interesting times indeed!” Adeyanju wrote, alluding to what he perceived as selective advocacy in the face of growing concerns over freedom of expression.

Adeyanju further recalled a similar incident during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, noting that he had spoken up for individuals who once opposed him when they became victims of government clampdowns.

“When the boy that led people to attack me under Buhari became a victim under the same Buhari and was arrested, I was the first person to condemn it,” he added.

VDM’s arrest has sparked widespread reactions, with several celebrities and influencers joining the call for his release. In Abuja, groups of supporters have also taken to the streets in protest, demanding his immediate freedom and criticizing what they describe as a growing intolerance for dissenting voices in Nigeria.
