* Says It’s Hardship On Young Lawyers

A legal practitioner, Bassey Ekpa has voiced his worries over the compulsory payment of building levy before retrieving of stamps.

Registering his concern over the plight of young lawyers with respect to the levy, he is calling on lawyers to address the issue and possibly petition persons concerned in imposing the untold plight and hardship on them.

Call for Concern

Please, are we aware that we compulsorily have to pay the building levy before retrieving our stamp?

This is very uncalled for as lawyers, especially young lawyers practising in this part of the globe should not for any reason be coerced to pay any sum of money after struggling to pay for their practising fee, welfare dues and levy, and stamp.

It is public information that 50 million was given for the building project by Akpabio’s govt. Someone has not been called to account for how the money was spent, rather we are being forcefully tasked, while the collectors of the said sum of money are comfortably swimming with the money at our own expense.

In view of the above, I will suggest that we rise strenuously to attack and address this concern, possibly petition persons concerned in imposing this untold plight and hardship on us. Do they want to bury us first before it is registered that an average young lawyer is struggling and can’t be over beaten without voicing out his/her concerns?

Bassey Ekpa, Esq.
