The legal representatives of Nigerian businessman and former governorship candidate, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, have petitioned the United States Embassy in Lagos, seeking a review of the recent visa denial issued to him and his wife, Mrs. Oyindamola Motunrola Ajadi.

In a letter dated August 18, 2025, the law firm of Izunya Izunya & Co., led by Barrister Isaac Izunya, urged the U.S. Consular General to reconsider the decision, which was based on Section 214(b) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act. The petition, also copied to the U.S. Ambassador in Abuja, described the refusal as “unsubstantiated.”

The legal team faulted the refusal notice for lacking key details, including the applicants’ names, application numbers, and passport information, while stressing that the couple had submitted all required documents. According to them, Mr. and Mrs. Ajadi applied for business visas following an invitation from Tunnad Properties, a U.S.-based real estate firm, with supporting documentation dated May 15, 2025.

Despite this, their applications were declined on August 4, 2025, under Section 214(b), which generally relates to doubts about an applicant’s intent to return to their home country.

Barrister Izunya argued that the decision was not supported by case-specific justifications and asked the embassy to:

  • Review CCTV and audio recordings of the visa interview,
  • Reassess all submitted documents, and
  • Provide clear reasons if the refusal is upheld.

He further maintained that the applicants’ strong business and family ties in Nigeria, along with investments in Grenada and the United Kingdom, demonstrated their clear intent to return.

The petition follows earlier remarks by Ajadi, who had questioned the transparency of U.S. visa denials and criticized the burden of non-refundable application fees on Nigerian applicants.

As of press time, the U.S. Embassy has not responded to the petition or Ajadi’s public statements.
