The Students’ Union Government (SUG) at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has indefinitely suspended its President, Chinedu Ozoagu, alongside seven other executives, following allegations of cultism, threats to life, and gross misconduct.

The action, taken by the SUG House of Representatives, stems from a petition submitted by Christian Okeke, which accused the officials of allegedly harbouring and facilitating cultist activities on campus for monetary gain.

In a statement signed by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Ikechukwu Eze, and the Clerk, Chidozie Onah, as reported by Vanguard on Monday, the officials were also implicated in the murder of a student within the university.

The statement further alleged that the suspended executives “weaponised cult groups on campus to intimidate and threaten the lives of the Speaker, the Clerk, the Budget Committee Chairman, and other principled members of the House.”

On financial misconduct, the House claimed that ₦124 million, approved by the former Acting Vice-Chancellor for SUG projects, was withdrawn and shared among external actors and officials without any projects executed. Additionally, ₦100 million withdrawn from the SUG account over the past year remains unaccounted for.

The statement also alleged that the suspended President had pressured the Speaker to authorise further withdrawals of ₦40 million from the SUG budget and ₦57 million for SUG projects, contrary to the Union’s Constitution and accountability principles.

Other officials suspended include Deputy Speaker Ihentugo Rejoice, Emmanuel Asadu, Agbo Sobechukwu Malachy, Chinweike Dorothy, Victory Chidiebere, Chukwuma JohnPaul, and Edmund Solomon.
