The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lagos Branch, has concluded its 2025 elections, with Uchenna Ogunedo Akingbade emerging as the new Chairman following a keenly contested poll held on June 30.

Announcing the official results, the Chairman of the NBA Lagos Branch Electoral Committee, Kelechi Obi, SAN, confirmed that Akingbade secured 552 votes, defeating his closest rivals, Nonso Azih, who polled 419 votes, and Abiye Tobiah Tam-George, who garnered 72 votes.

In the Treasurer race, Ogechi Olisa-Mokelu emerged victorious with 538 votes, edging out Jacob Dipo Famodimu who scored 488 votes. For the position of Publicity Secretary, Oliver Omoredia clinched the seat with 712 votes, ahead of Bayo Olusanya, who polled 325 votes.

Other positions, including Vice Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Social Secretary, Welfare Secretary, and Provost, were unopposed and thus not subjected to the ballot.

The newly elected Executive Committee of the NBA Lagos Branch for the 2025–2027 term comprises:

  • Chairman: Uchenna Ogunedo Akingbade
  • Vice Chairman: James Olaseni Sonde
  • Secretary: Kelechukwu Uzoka
  • Assistant Secretary: Ngozi Victor
  • Treasurer: Ogechi Olisa-Mokelu
  • Social Secretary: Rita O. Nwokocha
  • Publicity Secretary: Oliver Omoredia
  • Welfare Secretary: Bennita Nneka Olejeme
  • Provost: Igwebuike Michael Ikechukwu

Kelechi Obi, SAN, noted that the position of Financial Secretary remains vacant due to the disqualification of the previously nominated candidates. He added that the committee will continue to receive nominations for the office.
