United States President Donald Trump has said the US will pause planned attacks on Iran after what he described as the “perimeters of a deal” were agreed upon, including the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat.

Trump disclosed this on Saturday in a post on Truth Social, saying Iran and other Middle Eastern countries had asked the US to hold off further attacks while efforts were made to finalise an agreement.
“We have just been asked by Iran, and other Middle Eastern Countries, to hold off any attack in that the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to,” Trump wrote.
He said the proposed arrangement would include the “Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT” and an end to what he described as Iran’s nuclear threat.
The president added that the US was “locked and loaded and ready to go” against Iran, but that he had agreed to cancel attacks subject to the possibility of quickly reaching a deal.
According to Trump, Israel, the US partner in the conflict with Iran, had also joined him in the commitment.
“Get to work, everybody, and get it DONE,” Trump said, urging parties involved to move quickly toward an agreement.
Trump’s announcement came hours after the US State Department urged Americans across the Middle East to consider leaving the region or be prepared to depart on short notice, citing possible flight disruptions, airspace closures and worsening security risks.
The warning followed signs that the conflict with Iran was escalating, after Trump had earlier threatened fresh attacks and said on Friday that the US would be “hitting them very hard.”
Iran, on its part, had vowed to “punish” the United States, while both countries traded what US officials described as heavy strikes.
“Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise caution and heightened vigilance and should be prepared for flight cancellations, periodic airspace closures, and potential travel disruptions,” the State Department said.
“Some airlines in the region have postponed resumption of earlier flight schedules; others have cancelled some routes. Americans in the region should consider departing, or be prepared to depart should there be escalation,” the advisory added.
The State Department also urged Americans to reconsider travel to or through the region.
The warning was distributed through US embassies in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Although the State Department had issued a similar advisory earlier in the month, the latest warning went further by urging Americans to prepare to leave the Middle East or reconsider upcoming trips, reflecting Washington’s growing concern that the conflict could widen.
Also on Saturday, the Kuwait Army said its air defence systems had intercepted drone attacks from Iran.
“Kuwaiti air defenses are currently engaging hostile drone attacks following the Iranian aggression. The General Staff of the Army notes that any explosions heard are a result of air defense systems intercepting the hostile attacks,” the army said.
The latest development came two days after the US military confirmed that it had carried out a “heavy wave of strikes” on Iran.
That operation followed reports that Trump, during a phone call, had vowed to hit Iran forcefully.
The conflict has continued despite Trump’s earlier predictions that it would be resolved quickly. A Trump ally reportedly said the president had become increasingly frustrated with the course of the war.
“There was not a real strategy for how long or what they should do to get to the endpoint,” the ally said.
The conflict has now entered its sixth month and has contributed to soaring global oil prices, as well as rising gas prices in the United States.
There was a brief pause in June after the US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding outlining a process for talks aimed at ending the war.
However, the ceasefire collapsed in early July after Trump declared it “over,” leading both sides to resume strikes on targets in the Middle East.
The Strait of Hormuz, which Trump said would be reopened under the proposed deal, remains one of the world’s most critical energy routes, and any disruption to movement through the waterway has major implications for global oil markets.
Trump’s latest statement suggests Washington may be willing to halt further military escalation if Iran and regional actors move quickly toward an agreement addressing maritime access, nuclear concerns and broader security issues in the region.
