The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Oji River Branch has successfully elected a new executive committee to steer the affairs of the branch for the next two years.

The election, held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, was described by members as one of the most transparent and credible in the history of the branch.

Robert Okezie Iloabanafor, Esq, emerged unopposed as Chairman after other contenders stepped down. He polled 121 votes in total and was declared duly elected by the Electoral Committee chaired by K. E. Nwosu, Esq.

The contest for the position of Secretary was the most keenly contested. Mrs. Nkemdilim Winifred Elobuike defeated Mrs. Judith Onyinyechi Ogbodo with 82 votes to 39. Five votes were declared invalid.

Other members of the newly elected executive include:

  • Vice Chairman: Christopher Zeribe Onuigbo, Esq
  • Assistant Secretary: Chinonso Chizurumoke Oji-Ogbonna, Esq
  • Treasurer: Mrs. Francisca Obianuju Okenwa
  • Financial Secretary: Mrs. Uzoma Ogodo Udu
  • Publicity Secretary: Frank Chekwube Aniagu, Esq
  • Welfare Secretary: Basil Ugwu, Esq

Following the announcement of results, the Electoral Committee declared all the winners duly elected and returned.

In his vote of thanks, the newly elected Chairman, R.O. Iloabanafor, Esq, expressed deep appreciation to members for their support and confidence in the new team. He assured them of a purposeful administration that would build on the strong foundations laid by the outgoing executive led by Sir K.C. Olemeforo.

He pledged to uphold integrity, inclusiveness, and professionalism in delivering on the mandate given to the new leadership.
