The popular Wuse market in Abuja has resumed business operations three days after being shut down by government authorities following a violent incident triggered by the killing of a hawker.

The market was reopened around 12:00 pm on Friday, according to Innocent Obiechina, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Abuja Market Management Limited (AMML).

The closure of the market on Tuesday was a result of the unrest that erupted after the death of a hawker. The violence led to the burning of approximately 10 shops owned by traders and eight vehicles, including a police van and a vehicle belonging to a correctional facility.

Obiechina stated that the decision to reopen the market was made after stakeholders’ engagements at the office of the FCT Police Commissioner on Friday. The meetings aimed to address the concerns and find a resolution to the situation that led to the market’s closure.

The reopening of the market comes as a relief to traders and customers who rely on the Wuse market for their daily business activities and shopping needs. The market is one of the largest and most popular in Abuja, attracting a significant number of visitors daily.
