Total Support for Rule of Law and Justice Initiative made this call sequel to the allegation that the men of the Nigerian Army carried out human rights abuses on some unarmed innocent Nigerians during the launch of military operation code named “Operation Python Dance 11” in the South East Nigeria. The group noted with concern the social media which was awash with gory pictures and videos of Nigerian Citizens who were severely tortured, dehumanized, maimed and killed by the men of the Nigerian Army During the operation. In the letter written by the National Coordinator, Igwe to the High Commissioner For Human Rights, copied to United Nations High Commissioner For Human Rights, African Commissions, and Nigerian Senate made available to TheNigeriaLawyer stated that “The pictures and video clips in the social media revealed that unarmed civilian agitators were severely brutalized and some killed by the men of the Nigerian Army in the said operation Python Dance 11. The clips also revealed where some unarmed Nigerian youths were ordered to get drowned in muddy waters with Army boots on their heads and cudgels on their bodies to ensure they sank well. They were forced to drink the dirty muddy water until their intestines got filled up, breathing became impossible, blood gushed out through their noses, ears and mouths their eyes turned brown and weak, their ears got blocked, and enthusiastically the soldiers watched their fellow citizens die slowly in agony. Total Support for Rule of Law and Justice Initiative described this alleged inhuman, degrading treatment and killings by the Nigerian soldiers as revealed in the video clips and pictures as the highest height of human rights abuses on unarmed civilian agitators in the history of Nigeria and has condemned in its entirety this wicked act. They further stated that the men of the Nigerian Army who are saddled with the responsibility of defending the citizens but unfortunately turned to monsters overnight. Based on this inhumane act, Total Support for Rule of Law and Justice Initiative is calling on the commission to urgently hold public inquiry and investigate these alleged human rights violations and ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are brought to book. ]]>
