President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed an erstwhile senator representing Katsina Central, Dr. Ibrahim Ida, as the Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

The President has also nominated seven persons as Federal Commissioners of the National Population Commission (NPC).

The appointments were announced yesterday in Abuja in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. But they are subject to confirmation by the National Assembly and are aimed at strengthening key institutions of governance.

Ida, who represented Katsina Central in the Senate between 2017 and 2023, brings extensive experience in public administration and finance.

He holds a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Ibadan and a Law degree from the University of Abuja.

Before his legislative role, he served as Commissioner of Finance in Katsina State and later as a Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service.

Also, President Tinubu has named seven nominees to fill vacant commissioner positions at the NPC, representing their respective states.

They are: Kolawole Oladipupo Alabi (Ekiti), Nasiru Mu’azu (Zamfara), Usman Abubakar Tuggar (Bauchi), Dr. Isaka Alada Yahaya (Kwara), Prof. Sadiq Isah Radda (Katsina), Suleiman Umar (Jigawa), and Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo (Sokoto).

The Presidency said the nominations are part of ongoing efforts to complete the composition of the commission and enhance its operational capacity.

Also, the President has appointed Dr. Yusuf Mohammed from Kano State as the Chairman of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaltungo, further reinforcing leadership across federal institutions.

President Tinubu also confirmed the appointment of Bala Mohammed Bello as the Special Adviser on Political Economy.

Bello, an indigene of Taraba State, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Before his new role, Bello served as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and previously as Executive Director (Corporate Services) at the Nigerian Export-Import Bank between 2017 and 2022.

The Presidency stated that the appointments reflect the administration’s confidence in the competence and experience of the appointees to drive reforms and contribute to improved governance outcomes.

President Tinubu expressed optimism that the new officials would justify the trust reposed in them and support his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare and living standards of Nigerians.
