An undergraduate student of Anambra State University, Igbariam was on Tuesday struck to death by a thunder lightening following a heavy downpour in the area. The deceased, Vincent Uche Mbanefo, a 100-level student of Agric Extension, was saLodge be alone in his Achalla Logde around 5pm when the incident happened. A student of the institution, who spoke to the Nation on condition of anonymity, said the deceased, who lived alone in the room, was later found lying lifeless with the color of his skin turned to black. “The news came to us as a rude shock because the rain was not too heavy to have caused such calamity. It’s really unfortunate that we lost one of us that way,” he lamented. The State Police Public relations Officer, Mohammed Haruna who confirmed the incident, said the deceased was immediately rushed to the hospital by Police detectives attached to Achalla division where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor. He said the parents of the deceased were immediately contacted, who had since conveyed the corpse to their village in Aguleri for burial. Similarly, a 40-year-old man reportedly committed suicide in Obosi, in Idemili North local government area of the state. The deceased, Nnamdi Omezi, was said to have hung himself around 4pm, with a rope suspended to the ceiling fan in his apartment located at No. 7 Fred Ezika street Odume layout. Our reporter gathered that the body of the deceased was still dangling from where it was suspended when the Police, led by the DPO Isiowulu division arrived the scene. The reason behind the act was still unknown as at the time of filing this report. Confirming the incident, Police spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed, said the Police detectives attached to Isiowulu Division visited the scene of the incident with a medical doctor, who certified the victim dead. He however said efforts to recover the corpse for autopsy proved abortive, as the community insisted that ritual rites must be conducted as a traditional requirement before moving the corpse.
