The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested three individuals suspected of vote buying during the governorship election in Anambra State held on Saturday, November 8, 2025.

According to the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the suspects are Emeka Ilokasia, apprehended at Ward 2, Njikoka Local Government Area; Nwachukwu Loretta, arrested at Ward 2 (008), Awkuzu in Oyi Local Government Area; and Emuka Chuwudi, nabbed at Umunachi village in Dunukofia Local Government Area.

The Commission said its operatives, deployed across the state to monitor the electoral process, made the arrests. “The suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” Oyewale stated.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded over 95 percent of the election results from Saturday’s polls to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV). Out of 5,720 polling units, results from 5,472 units have been successfully uploaded, demonstrating steady electronic transmission and a notable improvement in technological use compared to previous elections. INEC assured that all uploaded results remain secure and verifiable, underscoring its commitment to a credible electoral process.

Election monitors under the Anambra Election Observation Hub, including Yiaga Africa, The Kukah Centre, International Press Centre (IPC), Centre for Media and Society (CEMESO), Nigeria Women Trust Fund (NWTF), ElectHER, and TAF Africa, deployed 711 citizen observers across the 21 local government areas. In a midday situational report at the Radisson-Onyx Hotel in Awka, the group commended the generally peaceful and secure conduct of the polls, noting the professionalism and electoral knowledge displayed by INEC officials and security personnel.

However, the observers expressed concern over persistent vote buying, describing it as a recurring feature in Nigerian elections, with political operatives employing evolving methods to influence voters. Despite isolated challenges, the monitors noted that the ongoing election has been largely peaceful and better organized than previous polls.
