The Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators is the professional body of dispute resolution practitioners with the mandate to regulate the practice of Mediation, train prospective candidates, and encourage organizations and institutions to adopt Mediation and Conciliation as the primary means for addressing disputes.

The Institute introduced her virtual courses in May 2020, and on the 22nd of June, 2020, ICMC commenced her first Mediation Skills Accreditation and Certification Training leading to Associate Membership of the Institute.

This training ran for six (6) days with thirty (30) participants in attendance. The course covers a wide range of topics; from exploring the spectrum of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), conflict theories and analysis, essential communication skills for ADR practitioners, and basic psychology and understanding emotions, to principles of strategic negotiation, mediation, conciliation and code of conduct for Mediators.

The role play activities and assessments were carefully planned and wonderfully executed. Participants were carefully drilled and assessed on the practical aspects of Negotiation and Mediation. They were required to put into action the skills they have been taught.

The participants were very grateful to the Faculty for their wonderful efforts throughout the training. They stated further that they learned so much in such a short time from the Facilitators and their fellow participants.

The training was described as “exceptional”, “impactful” and “the best experience ever” by the valued participants. All aspects of the training were conducted online and it was a seamless experience.

The Institute appreciates the participants for their patience and commitment to this very intensive training. Successful participants of the training will be inducted into the Institute as Associate Members during the 2020 African Mediation Conference and Induction Ceremony scheduled to hold on the 1st of December, 2020.

The next virtual Mediation Skills Accreditation and Certification Training of ICMC is scheduled to hold from Monday, the 6th of July, 2020 to Saturday, the 11th of July, 2020.
