Former Death Row Records co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight has made fresh allegations surrounding the 1996 killing of rap icon Tupac Shakur, claiming that lawyers representing murder defendant Duane “Keefe D” Davis offered him as much as $1 million to say Davis was not inside the vehicle from which the fatal shots were fired.

Knight, who was driving the BMW in which Shakur was travelling when the rapper was shot in Las Vegas nearly 30 years ago, reportedly made the allegation from prison on Tuesday.
According to Knight, he rejected the alleged offer because he was unwilling to compromise his loyalty to Shakur.
The allegation has not been independently established, and no evidence confirming that Davis’ lawyers made such an offer was presented in the material available.
Davis, who has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge arising from Shakur’s death, remains entitled to the presumption of innocence as the criminal proceedings continue.
Knight also criticised recent comments attributed to rapper The Game, who suggested that Davis was being used as a scapegoat in the murder case.
The former music executive dismissed claims by people he described as outsiders who purport to know the identities of Shakur’s killers, accusing some individuals of exploiting the rapper’s death to attract public attention.
Knight, however, stopped short of declaring Davis either innocent or guilty.
Instead, he maintained that several people were involved in the events surrounding the shooting and also alleged that off-duty law enforcement personnel played roles in the wider circumstances surrounding Shakur’s death.
Those claims remain allegations and have not been established by a court.
Shakur was shot on September 7, 1996, while riding in the passenger seat of a black BMW driven by Knight in Las Vegas.
Gunfire was directed at the vehicle, striking the 25-year-old rapper multiple times.
Shakur was rushed to hospital with severe gunshot injuries but died six days later, on September 13, 1996.
Knight survived the shooting.
Davis was arrested in 2023 in connection with the killing and charged with murder with the use of a deadly weapon, with prosecutors alleging that he participated in a plan that culminated in the fatal shooting.
Prosecutors have alleged that the attack followed an earlier confrontation involving Shakur, Knight and members of a rival group.
Davis has denied criminal responsibility and pleaded not guilty.
Knight, despite being one of the best-known surviving witnesses to the events of that night, has previously indicated that he does not intend to testify for either side.
“This trial has nothing to do with me and if somebody brings me there, it’s gonna hurt whoever brings me there,” Knight previously said.
“I promise you that.”
Knight is himself currently serving a prison sentence arising from a separate 2015 hit-and-run case.
His latest comments are not the first time he has publicly revisited the aftermath of Shakur’s death.
Knight previously disclosed unusual details about how Shakur was cremated after his death, saying the rapper’s mother, Afeni Shakur, wanted the process carried out immediately.
According to Knight, the funeral home employee he contacted initially could not perform the cremation that night.
Knight claimed that he then arrived with two bags containing cash one with $200,000 and another containing $1 million eventually offering a total of $1.2 million for the cremation to be carried out immediately.
Knight said the man eventually agreed.
He also previously claimed that following the cremation, Shakur’s family and close friends gathered in a Las Vegas hotel room to celebrate the rapper’s life.
According to Knight’s account, some of Shakur’s friends mixed a portion of his ashes into marijuana and smoked it as a symbolic tribute.
“A bag with his ashes was passed around,” Knight said in a 2025 interview. “His homies rolled him up. They smoked him.”
Knight said he was the only person in the gathering who declined to participate because he was on probation at the time.
“I was so happy to say I was on probation — I couldn’t smoke,” he recalled.
He described the act as symbolic, saying those involved viewed it as a way of keeping part of Shakur with them.
“You gotta understand, that’s what made sense. It was symbolic. It’s like … you keep part of him,” he said.
Almost three decades after the rapper’s murder, the criminal case against Davis has again brought intense attention to one of the most famous unsolved killings in hip-hop history.
Knight’s latest allegation now adds another controversial dimension to the proceedings, but his claim that he was offered up to $1 million to alter his account remains unverified, while Davis continues to deny the murder allegation and contest the prosecution’s case in court.
