Mr. J.S. Okutepa SAN is the Principal Partner of J. S. Okutepa & Co, one of the leading law firms in Nigeria with offices in FCT Abuja and Makurdi, Benue State respectively.
Mr. Okutepa is an astute legal practitioner of great repute and industry; regularly described as an iconic legal salamander. Mr. Okutepa attained the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria on 7th July, 2011.
Mr. Okutepa was appointed Notary Public of Nigeria by the Hon. Justice M. L. Uwais, Chief Justice of Nigeria (As He then was) in 2001.
Mr. Okutepa has led several teams of lawyers since his call to the Nigeria Bar in 1991 in several landmark cases for individuals, corporations, and Government/Government Agencies and has by these efforts contributed immensely to the development of the Nigerian jurisprudence; these cases enjoy constant law reporting.
Mr. Okutepa has also led outstanding efforts in huge debt/entitlements recovery for corporate and individual clients through negotiations, conciliation, and litigation; recovering and enforcing judgments that run in Billions of Naira.
As an astute Barman for over two decades, Mr. Okutepa is a leading voice and National Executive Council (NEC) member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). He is the Lead Prosecutor of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) at the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) on ethical issues affecting the bar and is also a member of the General Council of the Bar (GCB). He has also been an active member of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA) and the International Bar Association (IBA) for over a decade.
Following his outstanding contribution in human rights efforts, Mr. Okutepa enjoys appointments as Legal Adviser to several bodies, Unions/Organizations, and corporations and in recognition of his efforts and contributions to legal development; Mr. Okutepa has received numerous merit awards from different individuals and organizations.
Mr. Okutepa’s legal contributions are extensive; he is a regular conference speaker at Law and other Conferences and has written well over 30 conference papers.
Mr. Okutepa is married and blessed with Children and Grand Children.
