Chief Judge of Taraba State, Justice Joel Agya, has announced the 2025 Christmas vacation for all state high courts, effective from Wednesday, December 24, 2025, to Friday, January 2, 2026.

The notice, issued in Jalingo on Tuesday, was made in line with the Taraba State High Court Civil Procedure Rules 2011. Justice Agya cited Order 8 Rule 4 (C), which exempts civil matters from being heard during the period beginning on Christmas Eve and ending on January 2.

He stated, “It is hereby notified for general information that there shall be Christmas vacation of the high courts across the state.”

In a separate engagement, Justice Agya on Monday administered the oath of office to six newly appointed Notaries Public in the state. Those sworn in include Chief Barr. Timothy Kataps, Secretary to the State Government; Barr. Martins Milkman, Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Jalingo Branch; Barr. Nasiru Muhammad; Barr. B. A. Dauda Kura; Barr. Benson Vaatsav; and Barr. Danjuma Sani Nuhu.

Speaking at the ceremony in Jalingo, the Chief Judge charged the new notaries to uphold the highest standards associated with the office. He described the appointment as a solemn and distinguished responsibility requiring impeccable character, sound judgment, and strict professionalism.

“The appointment of a Notary is never routine. It is a solemn investiture that demands impeccable character, sound judgment, and unwavering adherence to ethical standards,” Agya said.

He emphasised that the office carries global importance since notarial acts support cross-border transactions and strengthen trust in the justice system. He urged the appointees to “serve with honour” and “serve with precision,” guided by the Notary Public Act 2023 and other regulations.

Justice Agya also commended the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice K. M. O. Kekere-Ekun (GCON), for approving the appointments.

NBA Jalingo Branch Chairman, Barr. Martins Milkman, described the ceremony as evidence of the growing professionalism and credibility of the Bar in Taraba State. He praised Justice Agya’s consistent support for legal practitioners and the broader justice system.

Responding on behalf of the new notaries, Chief Barr. G. T. Kataps appreciated the Chief Judge’s commitment to strengthening legal institutions in the state and assured that the appointees would discharge their duties lawfully, diligently, and with integrity.

Justice Agya concluded by reminding the wider legal community that the administration of justice depends not only on judges but also on statutory officers whose roles uphold public confidence and support the legal ecosystem.
