*Dismisses PDP’s Attempt to Undermine Abia Gov Election

The Supreme Court has dismissed an attempt by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to undermine the Abia State governorship election through legal tactics.

PDP candidate Okey Ambrose Ahiwe, who lost the March 18 election to Labour Party’s Dr. Alex Otti, had filed a suit on October 30th seeking to join as an interested party in a now-discarded Federal High Court ruling. The apex court called his application frivolous and agreed with Otti’s lawyers that Ahiwe had slept on his rights.

The court dismissed Ahiwe’s appeal and awarded ₦500,000 in costs against him and the PDP, in what observers called an embarrassing outcome.

The PDP and Ahiwe had earlier filed a proxy case in Kano claiming the LP did not submit membership registers to INEC, seeking to nullify LP candidates. The Appeal Court strongly rejected that ruling as reckless and fraudulent.

Even after the scathing Appeal Court judgment, Ahiwe and the PDP Abia chapter pursued an appeal to overturn Otti’s victory by claiming he was not an LP member.

The Supreme Court firmly denied their attempt to undermine the Abia election outcome through questionable legal maneuvers. Otti was elected Abia governor on March 18th, defeating PDP’s Ahiwe.
