Strike: JUSUN Accuses FG, Govs Of Conspiracy Against Judiciary Autonomy

The hope of early return to work by judiciary workers in the country appears dimmed as the Judiciary Staff Union, JUSUN, accused both the 36 governors and the Attorney General of the Federation of conspiring against the autonomy being sought for the judiciary at the state level.

National Treasurer of JUSUN who also doubles as the Spokesman, Mr. Jimoh Musa, who spoke with journalists on Monday said despite all said and done, the governors are yet to sign the portion of tripartite agreement reached recently to broker truce in the logjam.

The top JUSUN official expressed fears that even if the governors sign their parts, unless they find a way out, the opening of the courts would be delayed till the end of June 2021.

“This is because it is there in the agreement that the call off of the strike would be done when the money meant for the state judiciary enters the accounts of the heads of courts.

“Up till date, the AGF has remained silent in the face of judiciary odd situation, perhaps because he’s said to be aspiring to become governor of his Kebbi state in the 2023 governorship election.

“”The Accountant General of the Federation has explained to us that he would deduct money meant for the state judiciary from the federation account if Malami asked him to do so.

“We don’t just know the politics the federal government and the state governments are playing with the Judiciary.

“If they don’t want the judiciary as part of the government, let them come out plainly and say so,” the JUSUN spokesman said.

The JUSUN urged the Accountant General of the Federation to deduct funds due state judiciary from the federation account and that if the governors feel aggrieved, they should go to court.
