Former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has accused renowned lawyer and human rights activist Femi Falana of spreading falsehoods on national television concerning the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

During a recent media chat, Wike specifically criticized Falana for allegedly lying about the defection status of certain legislators during an appearance on Channels TV.

Wike referenced a recent Supreme Court ruling that addressed the issue of defection, stating, “A few days ago, the Supreme Court settled this matter of defection.

If someone of Femi Falana’s caliber can go on national television and lie, it’s very serious. Lies can cause a lot of crisis.” He expressed concern that such misinformation, especially from a respected legal figure, could escalate tensions if not addressed.

Expressing disappointment, Wike noted that Falana, as a senior lawyer, should understand the sensitivity of the issues and refrain from spreading deliberate falsehoods.

“There are things you don’t do, and that’s the problem I have with lawyers who thrive on telling lies,” he said, warning that such actions could destabilize the state further.

The accusations come amid a deepening political crisis in Rivers State, which has prompted the federal government to declare a state of emergency. Wike urged influential stakeholders, including legal professionals, to prioritize the state’s interests and work toward restoring stability.
