The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has announced that former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, will chair the Opening Ceremony of its 2025 Annual General Conference (AGC) scheduled to hold in Enugu State this August.

The confirmation came following a courtesy visit to the former president by a delegation led by NBA President, Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN; Chairman of the AGC Planning Committee, Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN; Alternate Chairman, Mr. Sammie Somiari, SAN; former Attorney-General of Oyo State, Adebayo Ojo, SAN; and other key members of the AGCPC.

During the visit, the NBA leadership briefed Chief Obasanjo on the theme of this year’s conference, “Stand Out, Stand Tall,” as well as the broader goals of the event, including national engagement, legal reform, and thought leadership. In response, Obasanjo lauded the association’s commitment to promoting justice, good governance, and national development through the legal profession, and graciously accepted the invitation to attend and chair the event.

Obasanjo’s participation is expected to elevate the opening of the 2025 AGC, bringing a wealth of experience and historical perspective to the national dialogue, and reinforcing the conference’s status as a premier platform for legal, civic, and policy engagement across Africa.

The NBA is expecting over 20,000 delegates from across Nigeria and beyond to attend the week-long event in Enugu.
