The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned nine individuals before a Federal High Court in Abuja over deadly attacks in Benue and Plateau states that left over 40 people dead, many injured, and hundreds displaced.

The charges, filed on Thursday, relate to the killings in Yelwata, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, and other parts of Plateau State. According to the DSS, one of the accused, Haruna Adamu, along with Muhammad Abdullahi of Awe LGA, Nasarawa State, and others still at large, allegedly carried out attacks on Abinsi and Yelwata villages on June 13, 2025.

In a separate charge, two other suspects, Terkende Ashuwa and Amos Alede of Guma LGA, Benue, face three-count charges for allegedly launching reprisal attacks against the terror suspects involved in the Yelwata and Abinsi killings.

The DSS also charged a 32-year-old woman, Halima Haliru Umar of Faskari LGA, Kastina State, with four counts of terrorism, including transporting 302 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition to bandits in July 2025, in violation of Section 13 of the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act.

Additionally, a 75-year-old man, Nanbol Tali, and Timnan Manjo were charged with four counts for allegedly buying and selling two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles without a licence for N3 million.

No trial date has been set for the suspects.
