Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has signed four bills, including the 2026 Appropriation Bill, into law. The bills were recently passed by the State House of Assembly.

The state’s budget was increased from ₦757.5 billion to ₦766 billion by the State House of Assembly, which the lawmakers said was to drive economic growth, infrastructure development, and programmes in the state.

Speaking shortly after signing the budget, Soludo described it as a strategic plan focused on delivering his administration’s promises and prioritizing the people’s needs.

The governor commended the lawmakers for their diligence and collaboration, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance.

In the 2026 budget, recurrent expenditure is projected at ₦162.6 billion, representing a 16.6% year-on-year growth, while capital expenditure stands at ₦595.3 billion, a 26.3% growth relative to 2025.

The capital budget accounts for 79% of the total budget size, with recurrent expenditure at 21%, a clear demonstration of the state government’s commitment to delivering tangible outcomes for Anambra people.

During the presentation, the governor said the budget deficit is estimated at ₦225.7 billion, representing 29.8% of the total budget size.

The deficit, he said, is expected to be financed, if necessary, through hybrid financing options, including possible privatization proceeds, a bump in IGR collections, and concessionary borrowing, mostly for bankable projects.

The governor also signed three other key bills, including the Anambra Mission School of Nursing and Midwifery Law, 2025; Tax Clearance Certificate Law, 2025; and Anambra State Correctional Service Law, 2025.
