The Anambra State Government has reinforced security operations in the state with the handover of 30 Toyota Hilux patrol vehicles to the Anambra State Police Command.

The vehicles were formally presented on Thursday at the Old Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, according to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

Governor Soludo said the gesture underscored his administration’s sustained commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force in improving security and ensuring the safety of lives and property across Anambra State.

During the event, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, also presented 28 newly commissioned Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), all indigenes of Anambra State, to the governor. The officers were recently posted to the state after completing their training at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, and being commissioned into the officers’ cadre of the Nigeria Police Force.

CP Orutugu noted that the addition of the patrol vehicles, alongside the deployment of the newly commissioned officers, would significantly boost police visibility, response time, and overall operational efficiency across the state.

While addressing the officers, Governor Soludo urged them to uphold the values and ideals of Anambra State, charging them to reflect the state’s slogan of being “a Light to the Nation” through discipline, professionalism, and exemplary service. He further emphasised the need for integrity, dedication, and commitment to duty in sustaining peace and security.

Dignitaries at the event included the Secretary to the State Government, the Principal Secretary to the Governor, the Chief of Staff, senior police officers, and other key stakeholders.

Recall that on July 29, 2025, the Police Command had also received an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) to further strengthen security operations in the state.

CP Orutugu, who received the vehicle on behalf of the Command, had expressed confidence that the APC would enhance the police’s capacity to tackle emerging security threats, while commending the Nigeria Police Force leadership for the timely intervention.
