Six people have been confirmed while about 80 others who sustained various degrees of injuries have been evacuated to the hospital.

The accident occurred when a moving train rammed into a BRT bus at the PWD bus stop in the Ikeja area of Lagos State on Thursday morning.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the fatalities while giving an update on the incident via its website.

It said two people initially died at the scene while four others died on arrival at the hospital.

The update reads: “After a report to the Lagos Territorial Office, the Emergency Response team mobilised to the scene of a bus/train collision.

“The State Government staff bus was trying to cross the PWD/Sogunle rail crossing while the train coming into Lagos from Abeokuta trapped the bus on its rail.

“Two adult females staff of the State Government died on the spot and several injured evacuated.

“Four additional injured persons have died on arrival at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital of the 84 injured and evacuated to the hospital.”
