Sit-At-Home Order Returns In Imo As Residents Desert Streets

The Monday, sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has returned in all parts of Imo State, following the complete desertion of streets, shops, and markets, by residents of the state.

There was also the total collapse of government, business and social activities both in the capital city and in the entire state as hotels, businesses, motor parks, financial institutions, eatery houses, club’s houses, and shopping malls remained closed.

The situation was the same on both highways and state roads, where the movement of both commercial and private vehicles was grounded following the order.

Both private and government Primary and Secondary Schools also remained closed as no parents allowed their child to go to school giving the last Monday experience.

Major roads such as Mbaise, Wethedral, Duglas, Orlu Road, Okigwe, Onitsha and Port Harcourt were completely deserted.

The Imo State Secretariat situated along Port Harcourt, was virtually empty as only a few civil servants could be sited in the enlarged premises.

Our correspondent who monitored the situation saw some travellers stranded as there were no commercial vehicles to convey them to their respective destinations.

Recalled that residents of the state had in the last few Mondays stopped complying with the order because of the earlier statement from IPOB until the last Monday when a fresh tension triggered off in the state thereby subjecting Imo residents out of fear to run for their lives for safety.
